Description
THE ART OF BREATH — A Mother's Day Celebration Esther Heideman, The Bowl Movement Sunday, May 9 · 3–5pm · $50 We close the season with the thing you've been doing since the day you were born, and have probably never been taught. Hour One: Breath, from the Singer's Side. Esther Heideman has spent a career at the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall, where the breath is not a wellness accessory — it is the instrument, and it has to work under pressure in front of three thousand people. She teaches what classical training actually knows about breathing: how the ribs and diaphragm are meant to move, how to find capacity you didn't know you had, and how the breath steadies the nervous system when everything else is asking you to rush. Hour Two: The Breath in Practice. Then you lie down and use it. Esther fills the room with Tibetan singing bowls while you keep the breath you just learned — sound and breath together, the technique settling into the body rather than staying an idea. A fitting close to the season, and a good way to spend a Mother's Day afternoon. Bring your mother, bring your daughter, or bring only yourself.
